Notes:

Goldie is available for adoption to an adult only, confident dog experienced home.

Goldie and her brother are products of a backyard breeder. This "breeder" thought it appropriate to give his puppies to a pet store and in turn, this pet store dumped them at a local shelter because no one wanted to buy them.

Goldie has never been properly socialized with people. Until arriving in our care, she had not been handled by people, encouraged to play, walked on grass, nor given any love. At first, she would not tolerate any handling and relied heavily on her brother for comfort. It took days before she would come out of her crate while a person was in the room and even then, she would race back in if there was any movement.

Because of her lack of socialization during her formative months, Goldie may never be a "normal" dog. She may never be comfortable in populated areas, may not greet strangers with anything but fear or uncertainty, won't be the type of dog to take everywhere without some concern for her anxiety levels. Only time and a very patient, positive owner will show us how far she can go.

May 20/04 - a note from her foster home Goldie is a sweet, loving little dog, despite her rough beginning!

Goldie needs attention & guidance to build her confidence. She cannot be in a home where she will be left alone for extended periods of time. She will not thrive in a home where everyone works 9-5.

She would do best in a quiet, experienced home with other dogs and no children. She loves to play with other dogs. She likes to bark at strangers & loud noises. She is fearful of small children and barks at them as well. She must have access to a dog proof yard, as she loves playing outside especially a good game of fetch. Goldie is 95% housetrained. She has mastered paper training and in the past few weeks has had no accidents in the house.

Goldie is very timid. She knows her name and will come to you but will not let you touch her. I am confident this behaviour will correct itself over time as she learns to trust. She often cowers when you approach her, however she will let you pick her up and loves to cuddle. She does not have any destructive behaviour & can be left alone. She does not bite and is quite co-operative if you need to examine her.

Goldie is learning to walk on a leash, but needs practice. Off leash is not an option for her. Goldie will try out new things and shows confidence while outside in the yard. She loves to catch the ball and play chase with the other dogs. She is a fast learner.

She shows love and affection to those people she trusts. She will fall asleep in your arms or beside you on the couch. Goldie is very sweet with a fun personality. Goldie will make someone a great companion!

May 5/04 - A note from her foster home: Goldie still cowers when I approach the cage. She does however let me pick her up with no problems. She will stay put for me to get her in my arms. She does not shake with fear. She is very comfortable in my arms. She will not let anyone else hold her. She barks at my husband and son although she is not barking as much. She is getting used to them and I believe in time she will become comfortable with them around.

The good news is that she will walk on a leash with my dog coming along . Goldie will try out new things and shows confidence in my yard. She loves to catch the ball and play chase with the other dogs. She will walk up and down my front porch and investigate the yard by herself.

She learns fast. She doesn't like loud noises. She likes to lick my feet and face. She shows love and affection when she is with me at night. She will fall asleep in my arms. Goldie is very sweet with a fun personality. She is throwing her bone up in the air and catching it as I type this note. She is healthy and gets lots of fresh air and exercise. Goldie will be fine with one person who will show her love and who knows how to train a dog.
