1.) How will InFlowYoga classes benefit me? Physically, by lengthening muscles, InFlowYoga helps increase flexibility and open the joints. It opens and elongates the spine leading to improved posture and increased vitality. Learning to engage the deep abdominal muscles brings lift to the belly, support to the low back, lightness to the body as well as toning the abdominal organs. InFlowYoga increases strength and relieves the physical, mental and emotional symptoms of stress.

Mentally, InFlowYoga increases clarity and focus. The mindful practice of InFlowYoga quiets the busy mind located in the frontal brain and activates the higher or deeper mind in the back body.

Emotionally, InFlowYoga brings balance and calm. It helps smooth the jaggedness of stress, nervous tension and anxiety. Through the mindful practice of InFlowYoga, students become grounded and centered.

2.) Why do I have to bring my own equipment? What if I forget my equipment? Students are required to bring their own equipment because there is limited space for storage. A small supply of mats, blocks and bolsters is provided in the event a student forgets something. For a list of yoga equipment recommended for Hatha and Restorative Yoga classes, please click here.

3.) Can I just drop into any InFlowYoga class? All InFlowYoga classes are of an on-going nature. Students are required to commit to a full session of classes- Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer. It is Pippa’s opinion that greater physical and personal benefits are obtained from participating in an on-going Yoga class with a consistent group of people. Drop-In is available to try out a class. There is a fee for this and permission of the instructor is required.

4.) What is the format of an InFlowYoga class? While the focus may vary from class to class, during each class students are clearly and mindfully lead through several poses concluding with a pose of relaxation and restoration. Throughout the class, Pippa directs the awareness of her students –both individually and as a group- to alignment of the physical body and to the subtle energetic effects of the poses. Focus is given to conscious breathing in the lower abdomen, lower ribs, upper chest and in the back of the body.

5.) Do I have to be flexible to do Yoga? No! Through the careful and mindful practice of Yoga, you will begin to lengthen habitually shortened muscles that contribute to inflexibility. Lengthening the muscles bring more space to the joints, elongates the body and increases flexibility. You may not be able to do the splits at the end of a series of sessions but your flexibility will improve!

6.) Do I need to have some experience with Energy to benefit from InFlowYoga classes? No prior experience with or knowledge of Energy is necessary to benefit from InFlowYoga classes. All you have to do is be open to new ideas.

If you have some awareness of your energy body, InFlowYoga classes will deepen your connection to the flow of Energy (prana/chi/ki). If you are new to Energy, InFlowYoga classes will introduce you to your energy body.

7.) What if I don’t feel Energy? It does not matter if you do not feel Energy. Whether you feel it or not, Energy is flowing through your body. To help her students sensitize themselves to the subtle flow of Energy, Pippa constantly draws the attention of her students to the Energy opened through the poses.

8.) How does focusing on Energy help me in my life? The flow of Energy through your body is your life force. When it is this flow is depleted, all of your systems- physical, emotional, mental, spiritual –become depleted. Bringing your awareness deep inside your body to the level of Energy will strengthen, vitalize and increase the flow of Energy. This will bring healing qualities to the physical body; balance and ease to the emotions; calm and depth to the mind. It will help you live your life from your core.

9.) Would I ever be overwhelmed by the flow of Energy in an InFlowYoga class? No. If you practice Yoga mindfully and from a grounded and centered place, the flow of energy through the body is gentle. Pippa supports this gentle flow with her energy healing skills. It can happen that a gentle surge of energy will move through the body during a pose, especially if a previously blocked or closed area suddenly opens. This might make you feel slightly light headed or, if the opening is in the area of the belly, a little nauseous. If this happens, come out of the pose, sit or lie down and focus on the breath until the feelings pass. Be sure to let the teacher know.

10.) Sometimes I feel emotional when I am in certain Yoga poses. Why is that? Occasionally, emotions will come up during a Yoga class. These can include feelings of sadness, blame, emotional fragility or exhaustion, tearfulness, anger, upset. They can also include feelings of joy, compassion, oneness, connection with Spirit. Sometimes we have awareness of the issues behind the emotions and sometimes we do not.

When we open the physical body in Yoga, we are also opening the energy body (aura). The energy body underlies the physical body and is made up of seven interpenetrating layers. One of these is the emotional body. It is in the emotional body that we process our emotions. If, for some reason, we are unable to release certain emotions, we store them in the emotional layer of our energy field.

Like all the layers of the energy field, the emotional body extends from the center of the body to several inches outside the body. Unresolved emotions are held in the emotional layer of the energy field either in the area of the tissues or in the field outside the physical body. When emotions come up during a yoga class it is because the physical movements of the pose have opened emotions held in the energy field.

11.) What should I do if emotions come up during a Yoga class? If emotions come up during a Yoga class it is important to acknowledge them. They should not be suppressed but neither should they be actively processed. Processing should take place in a therapeutic setting outside class. During class, try to stay curious about the emotions that come up rather than get pulled more deeply into them. In this way you may be able to gain some understanding about them- what they are about, whether they are attached to a memory, etc. If the emotions that have come up are manageable, continue to participate in the class. If the emotions are stronger, you can move out of the pose into a sitting pose or you can lie down, continuing to be with the emotions until you feel ready to re-join the class.

12.) Is InFlowYoga connected to any religion? No. Neither Pippa nor InFlowYoga is affiliated with any religion.

13.) Are the Yoga classes Energy Healing sessions? No, even though there is a strong focus in InFlowYoga classes on the energy aspects of Yoga, the Yoga classes are not Energy Healing sessions. Energy Healing sessions can be arranged by contacting Pippa directly here
