OAFLA LEADERSHIP

The Steering Committee is the organ of OAFLA that is responsible for the coordination of the organisation’s activities between General Assemblies. The Steering Committee is responsible for:

Implementing the decisions of the General Assembly;
Submitting recommendations or proposals to the General Assembly;
Preparing the Agenda of the General Assembly;
Coordinating the work of the sub-regions;
Providing guidance to the Executive Secretariat;
Overseeing the functioning of the Executive Secretariat;
Coordinating the mobilization of resources and the implementation of the activities program;
Promoting the Organization

The Committee consists of a President, Vice- President and representatives of the sub-regions (sub-regional Vice-Presidents). For the current term (2004-2006), the Committee members are the following:

President: Mrs Jeannette Kagame - First Lady of the Republic of Rwanda

Vice-President: Mrs Touré Lobbo Traoré – First Lady of the Republic of Mali

Vice-President representing Central Africa – Dr Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba, First Lady of the Republic of Gabon

Vice-President representing Central Africa – Mrs Aude Ndayizeye, First Lady of the Republic of Burundi

Vice-President representing Eastern Africa – Mrs Lucy Kibaki, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya

Vice-President representing Southern Africa – Mrs Maureen Mwanawasa, First Lady of the Republic of Zambia

Vice-President representing Western Africa – Mrs Theresa Kufuor, First Lady of the Republic of Ghana

The next Steering Committee Meeting will take place in Lusaka, Zambia on 20 May 2005.
